Led by British captain Josh Stickland, the racing team representing Quang Ninh province, Vietnam, known as “Ha Long Bay, Vietnam,” clinched the 5th place spot at 10:30 on February 19, temporarily securing 6th place in the Final Ranking. The exhilarating race saw the Qingdao team triumphantly cross the finish line first at 1:20 p.m. on February 18, with Zhuhai and Unicef closely following in 2nd and 3rd place, respectively.

Rich reflects on the daunting challenges faced during the voyage, with winds reaching up to 40 knots and encounters with fierce storms and waterspouts. Post-Ha Long Bay Itinerary for Clipper Race Sailboats

The arrival of sailboats at Ha Long Bay presents a favorable opportunity for Vietnam to promote this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Following their stay in Ha Long Bay, racing teams are afforded approximately two weeks to unwind, explore the surroundings, and engage in various exchange and experiential activities. This period serves as an opportunity for Quang Ninh Province to showcase its tourism offerings to a global audience, with a particular focus on attracting visitors from Europe, North America, and Australia.

On March 2, the teams will set sail from Ha Long Bay towards their next destination: Kyushu, Zhūhǎi City, located in Guangdong Province, China. This leg of the 2023-2024 Clipper Race features the participation of nearly 400 sailors across 11 sailboats, spanning 8 stages comprising 16 individual races and 6 challenging ocean crossings.
